28th Amendment
Author's Note: I thought I'd join in the 28th Amendment fun.

For those who follow Canadian politics, I've assumed that we've had two federal elections between now and then, and Ignatieff is PM.

For those who aren't familiar with Rick Mercer, he's a comedian from Newfoundland who has a show, the Rick Mercer Report, which includes, among other things, a weekly rant. As you read it, picture a guy walking quickly toward the camera through a graffiti-covered alleyway.

***

The longest undefended border in the world is no longer. The theocratic state to our south has stationed troops on the border to stop their own citizens from coming to Canada.

Now, we could say that this is nothing unusual. Smug Canadians, we could say that they've always been theocratic homophobic nutjobs who like to lynch people. But things are getting worse. The army is hanging dead bodies from trees. Politicians and academics are being imprisoned, assassinated, and run out of the country. A thousand American refugees are streaming across the border every day, even now that the border has been closed.

And what has our Canadian government done? Nothing.

Michael Ignatieff has refused to pull our diplomats out of Washington. Alberta is still selling oil to them. Even Stephen Harper hasn't renounced ties between his party and the Republicans. When the United Nations had their first emergency general meeting in Toronto, Canada didn't even vote to remove the United States from their permanent seat on the Security Council. That puts us right up there with China and various African dictatorships.

These are the guys who didn't want to trade with China because of human rights. But if it's the United States that is abusing the human rights, they can have all the oil they want.

These are the guys who produced the “soldiers in the streets” attack ad a few years back... but when it actually happens across the border, they don't lift a finger to help.

Ladies and gentlemen, be glad we have the Canadian government to look out for peace, order, and good government.
